The Robert Scott Bridge

Shooting from the Robert Scott bridge offers the photographer great subject matter morning, noon or night. Sunrises can be stunning just before the sun crests the horizon but once over you’ll be shooting into the light. Sunsets are consistent due to the
soft light on the harbor coming from the west. Check your moon tables and catch a “Moonrise Over Oriental” like the one seen here! Park at the harbor or the wildlife boat ramp and walk up. A little exercise is good for you!

East End of South Avenue

With a perfect line of site over Whittaker Point this is an excellent vantage point for capturing a sunrise or moonrise. This isn’t the best sunset location due to the tall trees and homes that block most of the sun’s light. Park at Lou Mac Park and
walk down or simply pull over at the end the road. This is also an excellent location for astro photography on a clear night.

Lou Mac Park

Ample parking and plenty of subject matter around Lou Mac Park. Here you’ll find opportunities to capture the first rays of light with the new or old fishing pier in the foreground or focus on the beautiful oak trees that fill the park. The colorful
Adirondack chairs are quintessential Oriental but you’ll likely need a flash if you’re trying to capture them at sunrise. Or simply wait until you see someone relishing in the easy living lifestyle our village offers and ask if you can take
their portrait!

Under the Robert Scott Bridge

Several great vantage points can be found underneath the Robert Scott bridge. Relics of an old pier, bricks from a structure long since forgotten and several beautiful trees line the banks on this reach of Camp Creek. The bridge itself becomes
a nice compositional element, especially as it’s basking in the final rays of sunlight. Park at the Wildlife Ramp or marina and walk just a few paces to find your ideal location.

The Oriental Harbor

A trip to Oriental wouldn’t be complete without a photograph of the harbor. Shrimp trawlers, sailboats, colorful personalities, good light at sunrise, sunset, mid-day, cloudy, sunny… no matter the condition opportunity abounds in this
area. If you can only shoot one place, this should be it. Though unlikely, alot of the area is on private property so be prepared to either ask for permission or forgiveness.
